CE stands for “Conformité Européenne,” meaning European Conformity. It is a mandatory marking that indicates products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA) meet the EU's standards for safety, health, environmental protection, and consumer protection.
CE RED refers to the Radio Equipment Directive, one of the CE certification directives. It verifies that products equipped with wireless functions comply with requirements for health and safety, electromagnetic compatibility, efficient use of the radio spectrum, and the cybersecurity requirements that will become mandatory starting August 1, 2025.
Any wireless device must comply with RED to be distributed in the EU market. Once these requirements are met, the product may bear the CE mark.
Efficient Use of Radio Spectrum(Article 3.2) EMC(Article 3.1 b) Health and safety(Article 3.1 a) Cybersecurity Requirements (3.3 (d), (e), (f))
Mandatory Requirement for EU Market Access
Without certification, customs clearance is not possible, and distribution within the EU market is strictly prohibited.
Prevention of Legal Risks
Failure to obtain certification exposes businesses to severe legal penalties, including fines and product recalls.
Enhanced Product Credibility
The CE mark provides global buyers and consumers with confidence in the product’s safety and quality.| Categoty | Certification Item | Key Details |
|---|---|---|
| HW | Efficient Use of Radio Spectrum (Article 3.2) |
The equipment shall make efficient use of the radio spectrum and shall not cause harmful interference to other equipment. |
| HW | EMC (Article 3.1 b) | The radio equipment shall be designed so that it does not generate electromagnetic disturbances and remains resistant to external electromagnetic interference. |
| HW | Health and Safety (Article 3.1 a) | The equipment shall provide protection to ensure that users are not exposed to electrical or mechanical hazards. |
| SW | Cyber Security (3.3 (d), (e), (f)) | The equipment shall include functions that ensure the secure protection of user data and prevent unauthorized access or misuse; these requirements shall become legally mandatory as of 1 August 2025. |
